Ah I do at least know what a PCB and I have even drawn these by hand in my days as a draughts-woman but I have never used software to design PCBs.

This is not something I have done yet. I do at least know what the software looks like now and I have seen many other people using it. I am not overly concerned as I sure I will be able to use the program quite easily. Even if I have difficulty I know there are lots of people from my course that would be only to happy to help. Even without their help there are loads of YouTube tutorials and I find these relatively easy to understand.
I have a good understanding of laying out PCB boards as I did that as a draughts-woman with a pen and paper. The main things I think are important when laying out a PCB board are:

- It should look neat and tidy and follow a logical layout
- Tracks should be kept as short as possible
- Component that are to be joined should be placed close to each other.
- There should be sufficient gaps between components and tracks to prevent bridging.
