Knowledge/Skills Rating scale
As I lack so much confidence I am going to give myself a five point evaluation scale. This will give me a chance to note the smaller steps towards feeling competent to teach.
I have no understanding of this subject.
I have minimal understanding of this subject. *
I have some knowledge of this subject but feel unable to articulate my knowledge in a useful way. **
I have a good understanding of this subject and feel able to share that knowledge. ***
I have a good understanding of this subject and feel confident when sharing that knowledge. ****
I have a good understanding of this subject, I feel confident and competent when sharing this knowledge. *****

Applying and Recording Knowledge/ Skills Ratings
4th March 2012
Throughout my audit I have carried out an initial assessment of my skills ratings relating to the subject knowledge required for my BA Hons degree course . Every time I feel my knowledge, understanding, confidence or competence increases to a significant level in any area I have awarded stars accordingly as graded by the scale above. On many occasions I have had to resist the temptation to remove stars believing I was too rash in bestowing them in the first place just because my own confidence had waned. I could really do with a variable scale that goes up and down throughout the day depending on my mood: up every time I learn something new, down when I realise how little I know.
The way I have graded my skills and subject knowledge actually relates to how I feel about what I know rather than to claim to know everything there is to be learnt in that area. Although I did not realise it at the time, I think this has been a good way to rate my knowledge. It has prevented me from down grading everything I know when I find out just how vast the topic area really is or when I lose confidence just because I am tied. What I have actually said for three stars is how do I feel about sharing the knowledge I have not how vast is my knowledge. This enables me to leave stars in place because no matter how I may be feeling within myself I would still be happy to share what I know with someone else if they needed me too.
As well as awarding stars relating to my progress throughout my journal, I have added a table giving an overview of each topic at the beginning of each section. I have done this at the start and finish of semester one. By carrying out this review I was able to see at a glance where I had made progress and where I needed to do more work or even get started! From now on every time I a new star I will add it to the table ready for the end of semester two. By regularly glancing at the tables I will be able to quickly assess my progress and areas that need attention. This has made me very mindful when considering a project for design innovation as I feel I would benefit from developing my electronic skills the most.

Knowledge/Skills Rating Review
25th March 2012
Looking through my subject audit I feel I would benefit from altering my knowledge/skills rating table. nothing radical but where I started out not even understanding the heading It is not very clear that I have awarded myself no stars. Instead the first time the blue stars appear they look as if that is my initial rating score. I do not want to undo or alter what I have already done so what I am going to do is add a red star to indicate no knowledge or understanding at all. My scale will now look like this:-
I have no understanding of this subject. *
I have minimal understanding of this subject. *
I have some knowledge of this subject but feel unable to articulate my knowledge in a useful way. **
I have a good understanding of this subject and feel able to share that knowledge. ***
